I've had a lot of things going on in the past five weeks, including the Texas Ice Bowl. Just so you know, the only repair I have to make is to replace a broken showerhead.

So, I hereby return with . . .

RANDOM THOUGHTS IV

  • I think rudeness is a result of selfishness 75% of the time, and simply not thinking the other 25% of the time.

  • One of my favorite movie scenes is from The Gods Must Be Crazy. A man is driving a jeep with a brake problem. He's driving uphill and lets it roll to a stop at a gate. He has to go back and forth between opening the gate and retreiving the jeep. What makes it so good is that the entire scene is one single shot.

  • A person's privacy is sacred. If someone doesn't bring up something themselves, don't bring it up for them. They may have a reason not to say anything about it. This is one thing women do that drives me up the freaking wall. This is how my ex-wife once got two policemen thinking my niece was involved in illicit affairs!

  • I enjoy classic movies. My favorite is Citizen Kane, and I also love Harvey, The Third Man, and The Treasure of the Sierra Madre. But I'd love to see more of the great actors of the era who don't get their fair shake in this day and age, like Veronica Lake.

  • Social media is not a place to push your own views. It should be a place where honest discussion draws out the truth. But the exact opposite has happened. The ones pushing an agenda have backed the others into a wall, and they're fighting back with reiteration of overused points and denial of the other side's valid points.

  • Good riddance, Rush. I hope the Berlin Wall was waiting for you in front of the pearly gates and Saint Peter won't give you a chance to talk.

  • I'm what's called a sigma male. Some have called me an omega, but I definitely don't fit all the criteria, while I do fit all the criteria for the sigma.

  • Yesterday, I helped pass out over 14,000 cans of water provided by Anheuser-Busch. Between Spring Democratic Club and Harris County Sheriff's Department, we spent almost two hours helping families who don't have their water back. Even Sheriff Gonzalez showed up!

  • People say life is what you make of it. My godmother called it a bowl of cherry pits. Some in my family say it's everything you do and everyone you meet. I say, life's a pot shot.

  • There are a lot of professional poker players who lose to "maniacs". Those are people who never fold, no matter what they're holding, and have a tendency to go all in almost all the time. Why do they lose? They don't believe in luck. Luck is the consequences of anything beyond your control, like which card is on top of the deck. Maniacs beat pros because they rely on something the pros don't even accept the existence of.

  • Democrats know what they're talking about, but have no idea how to get it across. Republicans have no idea what they're talking about, but know exactly how to get it across. That's why this country is so screwed up.

  • There have been a lot of memes making fun of '80s hair styles, lately. I lived through that era. Most of it didn't work. But when it worked, IT. FREAKING. WORKED!

  • I'm sick of people using dictionary definitions. They're not technical, and some are flat out wrong.

  • Which is scarier? The accused, or the accuser? Consider what the accusation may be, and I don't just mean legal.

  • What you think of yourself is usually not entirely accurate, if at all. Always take note of what others are saying. Even if you're right about yourself, you may not come across in a good way.

  • I can solve differential equations, but I can't figure out why my left shoelace won't stay tied more than thirty seconds.

  • There is nothing more selfish than someone who takes their child's COVID relief check to get something frivolous for themselves because "it's my house". I've seen a lot of those.

  • The law, religious books, and psychiatrists are not tools to get your own way, but a lot of people are treating them as if they are.

  • I can't believe how many songs out there have a different meaning than people assume. So many songs are about something completely different. "Fight For Your Right" made fun of partiers. "Mmm Bop" was about an old man who abused his grandson. "Just Dance" is about rohypnol. And "Total Eclipse of the Heart"? Transformation into a vampire.

  • Things would be a lot better if (1) more people would say no, and (2) more people would take no for an answer.

  • There are three types of Millenials. The type that's pissing everyone off are the ones who find a little bit of information, draw a hundred conclusions (ninety-nine of them wrong), and try to force it on everyone. Sorry, but there were white people in the Bible. The majority of them are called "Romans". And, yes, Jesus was white (but that's no excuse to push white supremacy).

  • On the item about songs three points ago, the number of songs people think are about love or sex proves just how far this country has gone downhill when it comes to being with the right person. Basically, most of us aren't. (I've talked about this before.)

Well, that will be it for this one. More Random Thoughts at some point in the future, but for now, back to regular blogs. Until next time . . .
